A day on Hot Tuna is unlike anything most people have experienced before. Here's a complete, honest breakdown of what your charter day looks like โ no sugarcoating, just the real thing.
Your Charter Day โ Hour by Hour
Meet at the Marina
We meet at the marina in Hurghada at 05:30 (for full-day charters) or 08:00 (for half-day). Exact meeting point and parking instructions are sent the evening before. Captain Atef or a crew member will greet you at the boat.
Safety Briefing and Departure
We run a quick safety briefing, show you the facilities onboard (toilet, kitchen, sleeping area), and introduce the crew. Then we cast off. The transition from marina to open ocean takes about 15 minutes.
Reaching the Fishing Grounds
Depending on the package, we run 5โ35 nautical miles offshore. At 20 knots, even our furthest grounds are reached in 90 minutes. During the transit, crew rig up rods, prepare tackle, and the crew makes fresh coffee.
Lines in the Water โ The Action Begins
This is what you came for. Depending on conditions and target species, we'll troll, pop, jig, or chunk bait. The crew will put rods in your hands and walk you through every technique. First strikes often happen within 20 minutes of the lines going in.
Midday โ Lunch and Rest
We break for fresh fish lunch (when time and catch permit), sandwiches, chips, and drinks. There's a covered cabin for shade, a sleeping area if you need to rest, and a proper electric toilet. This is also a good time to admire the Red Sea scenery โ we're often far enough offshore to see nothing but blue in every direction.
Afternoon Fishing โ Second Wind
Afternoon sessions are often the most productive. Bait schools concentrate around temperature changes, and our experience tells us exactly where to position the boat. Big game anglers often land their best fish between 13:00 and 15:00.
Fish Cleaning and Return
Lines come in, and our crew immediately gets to work cleaning and filleting your catch on the cutting board โ a service included in all packages. The run back to port takes 30โ90 minutes, giving you time to rest and relive the highlights.
Back at the Marina โ Debrief and Farewell
We dock, hand over your filleted catch in a bag, take final photos, and say goodbye. Many guests ask to rebook on the spot. Captain Atef always stays for questions โ about the day, about fishing in general, or recommendations for where to get your fish cooked in town.

Frequently Asked Questions on the Boat
How rough is the sea?
The Red Sea is generally much calmer than Atlantic or Pacific waters. We monitor forecasts daily and never depart in unsafe conditions. Most guests are pleasantly surprised at how smooth the ride is.
What if I get seasick?
Tell us immediately. We carry remedies onboard, can adjust our course to calmer water, and โ if absolutely necessary โ can return to port. In most cases, staying on deck, focusing on the horizon, and having a light snack resolves it within 30 minutes.
Can I bring my own food or alcohol?
Yes. You're welcome to bring additional food or beverages. We provide ample food and hard drinks onboard, but you're free to supplement.
What happens to the fish?
All catch belongs to you. Our crew fillets and bags it. You can take it to your hotel; most hotel kitchens or local restaurants in Hurghada will prepare it for a small fee.
